Recent scholarship winner, Afsana Q. from Richardson, Texas knows a thing or two about researching and applying for scholarships. After all, as the winner of the “I Don’t Want to Pay for College” December scholarship, she’s taking home $1,000 to help pay for college.
So, we asked her some questions about herself and her college and scholarship search experience
What is your secret to finding and applying for scholarships?
I use a bunch of websites like Fastweb, Cappex, and Zinch to get email updates about scholarships and I just apply to as many of them as I can.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to work for United States government. I don’t exactly know the specific job, but something in foreign relations or foreign policy sounds really exciting!
Name three things you just cannot live without.
I cannot live without my mom, who is my biggest supporter and has given me so much. I cannot live without the Internet, which helps me with school as well as providing me with entertainment. And lastly, I cannot live without chocolate, which makes me happy when I stress out or when I am upset.
If you could offer a younger student one piece of advice for the college search, what would you say?
When you search for colleges, look for those that have great programs to support your career goals. I know that my school has tons of student forums and gives students the chance to meet with ambassadors and other high officials from all over the world! Even if you don’t have a set career goal in mind, choose a college that will provide you with tons of resources to get you involved in helping you to find out what you might be interested in doing after college.
