Be Careful! Don’t Make These Scholarship Application Mistakes

student-at-computerThis scholarship application has been staring at you for weeks, and you’ve finally set down to complete it. After writing that last sentence of the essay, you place your cursor over the “Submit” button.

Before you submit all of your hard work, make sure it represents you in a positive way. You don’t want to accidentally send a mistake-riddled paper that sends your application directly to the trash. Follow these tips to make sure that your application is a winner:

Look for blanks. We know you just spent hours filling in all the boxes, but make sure you double check to make sure you didn’t miss anything. Filled in the GPA box, the graduation date box? Good. Just make sure you didn’t forget to dot your i’s and cross your t’s.

Proofread, proofread, proofread. Make sure you look over your work and check for any missing commas or grammar issues. If you’re nervous that you are missing something, ask a friend or family member to take a look for you before submitting.

Double-check the directions and eligibility. Read the guidelines to make sure that you do indeed qualify for the scholarship. After checking to see that you are indeed the perfect candidate, reread the directions. You want to give yourself the best possible chance at earning free money, so make sure that you are doing everything they ask of you and doing it correctly.

Make doubly sure you have the required materials. Tax form? Check. Transcript? Check. ACT score report? Oops. This goes along with reading the directions. See to it that everything is included and that nothing has slipped through the cracks. This ensures a complete and perfect application that shows off your best self.

Everything spot-free and gleaming with perfection? Submit that thing, you rock star you!
