“A GPA Isn’t Everything” Scholarship Winner: Kaileigh K. Prescott, Ariz.

Recent winner of the $1,000 “A GPA Isn’t Everything” Scholarship,  Kaileigh K. took some time aside to share with her peers (you guys!) her experience in the college and scholarship search, plus some extra tidbits about herself. Hopefully you’ll find some very useful tips!

Here’s what Kaileigh had to share:

What is your secret to finding and applying for scholarships?

My mom is my secret weapon when it comes to scholarships. She helps me out so much by doing research on scholarships I’m eligible for. She always encourages me to apply because she wants me to have a wonderful college experience without having to worry about being in debt. I am very blessed to have such wonderful parents.

Why are you going to college?

I am going to college because I know I cannot pursue my dream of becoming a speech pathologist without a degree. I want to be able to independently support myself financially and help others at the same time.

Favorite movie and why?

I love the movie “A Walk to Remember”! It is such a wonderful movie. It shows that being a good person is what matters most. It’s important to surround yourself with people that you love and that love you. Popularity doesn’t matter when you look at the big picture.

If you could offer a younger student one piece of advice for the college search, what would you say?

I would say focus on your grades all four years [of high school] and when you’re ready to start applying for colleges, visit the campus and see if you like the city it’s in because that’s where you’ll be living for the next four or more years.
