Internships: Which Companies Pay the Highest?

Among the various perks of pursuing undergraduate studies in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) are the internships. Most STEM interns not only gain experience, but also a competitive salary. A recent Glassdoor report reveals the 25 Highest Paying Companies for Interns and it comes as no surprise that the tech industry dominates with 19 companies making the list. Companies in oil, gas, energy, and utilities sector make up the remainder. Palantir Technologies ranks #1 on the list with interns bringing in an average monthly pay of $7,012. WMWare, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook round out the top five. Of the top 25 employers, 18 are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, no doubt stemming from Silicon Valley, headquarters for many of the world’s largest technology corporations and small startups. I am a Freshman studying Computer Science at Texas State University. Seeing all these awesome opportunities for STEM internships makes me hopeful for my future. I saw somewhere on the internet a meme, with a guy saying “You won’t hire me because I don’t have experience… I don’t have experience because you won’t hire me.” This doesn’t have to be any one of us STEM majors; we can apply for one or two dozen internships and be able to GET that experience, so there will be no hassle getting an excellent job after graduation. I plan to apply for Apple, USAA, and Microsoft internships after my Sophomore year. These companies have already shown interest in my school in particular, and have great benefits, as well as stations in the San Antonio/Austin areas. It’s not only my home state, but rather all states that have great opportunities. They are out there, you just have to find them.
