Being on a college budget can be challenging. Between textbooks, lab fees and general living expenses–AKA that lifetime supply of Ramen Noodles you just purchased–how can you possibly pay for anything else?
The point is, you don’t really have to. Living on a college or university campus is one of the best places to find cheap, if not free, fun things to do any night of the week.
Here are some of our ideas to keep entertained on a college budget:
Universities are like playgrounds for your favorite thinkers, artists and authors. Check out your university’s or campus bookstore’s schedule for any interesting folks you could hear speak and possibly meet. You never know who might be stopping through campus.
2. University Union Events
A lot of schools offer free events for undergraduate students through the central union. They might hold a movie night of a still-in-theaters movie or an ice skating night in the hockey stadium. Keep an eye out for free events sponsored by your school that spark your interest.
3. Student Groups
The coolest part about college is the student body. Depending on your school size, you probably have student shows going on weekly if not every night of the week. The includes a cappella groups, improv teams, dance troupes, musical and theater productions, indie bands and much much more. Some of these shows might cost a little money, but it’s better than paying $50 for a professional performance.
4. Student ID
Your student ID is the key to your keeping within your budget. Keep it on you at all times. You’d be surprised what types of venues it will get you a break on–movies, food, museums, the list goes on.
