Why you should attend an interview during the college admissions process

If you are in the midst of the college application process, you are probably aware that it can be complicated and include many levels. For example, on top of a typical application form, you may be required to submit letters of recommendation, SAT scores and various other supplies. Still, you might find that some schools either require or offer interviews as part of the admissions process.

If you are invited or required to attend a college interview, there is no need to panic. Instead, you should see it as the ideal opportunity to show college admissions officers who you are as a person, beyond what they would see on paper from your application.

Even if a college interview is not required, it can be a great time for students to show faculty how serious they are about attending their university. Additionally, it gives degree seekers the chance to learn more about their prospective schools and ask questions.

Typically, if you attend an interview you will meet with an admissions officer, current students or alumni. Interviews last anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. However, you should know that the exact process varies from school to school.
