College enrollment increasing, says report

In today's challenging economic climate, it's more important than ever to earn a college degree. However, increasing numbers of students are choosing to pursue degrees, and universities are receiving record numbers of college applications, according to a recent study that was published by the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

In addition, more students are applying to multiple colleges to improve their chances of admission. According to the report, 77 percent of college freshmen applied to at least three schools, and 25 percent filled out college applications for seven or more colleges. Perhaps due in part to students filling out many applications, three-quarters of colleges have reported an increase in the number of applications they have received since 2010.

As more students apply to college, universities have become increasingly more selective about which students are admitted to their degree programs. The amount of students accepted, also known as the yield rate, has been declining steadily for the past 10 years as increasing numbers of students apply to colleges.

Although these numbers may be discouraging, pursuing a college degree is still an excellent investment in your future. Study hard, maintain a solid GPA and apply to schools with the degree that suits you. Stay focused and work hard.
