Are online classes right for you?

Today, in the era of technology, many students opt to take classes online. In fact, the 2010 Sloan Survey of Online Learning shows that in the fall 2009 semester, about 5.6 million students took at least one web-based class.

Sure, online learning is really popular, but how do you know if this is the best option for you? Well, one important thing to consider is how well you work independently. In most online classes, you will be responsible for getting your work done on your own time. While this can be good if you have a full-time job or a busy schedule, it also means that you need to be disciplined enough to get your work done without anyone encouraging you to do so.

Another thing to consider is how comfortable you are with your computer skills. Although most online classes only demand basic web abilities, the last thing you want is for your lack of proper online skills to prevent you from succeeding in class.

There are many benefits in taking classes over the internet, so if this is something that appeals to you, it may be worthwhile to consider whether or not your prospective schools offer web-based classes during a college search.
